The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) reveled in the spotlight at the 2012 State Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Industry Awards being named ‘Best Meeting Venue for 500 Delegates or more’ in Queensland.
The award win reaffirms the Centre’s position as a market leader in the MICE sector, on the back of news the Centre experienced its most successful year since opening in 2004, with a 57% increase in attendees, 130% increase in Queensland conference attendee days and a strong economic injection into the Queensland economy of $284 million – a 17% jump on the previous financial year.
Toasting success at the awards ceremony held in Brisbane on Thursday night, GCCEC General Manager Adrienne Readings stated the award acknowledges the Centre’s reputation as a favoured business destination.
“The GCCEC continues to demonstrate to the industry that our world-class venue coupled with the leisure destination of the Gold Coast is a winning formula not only for the Centre, but for the region and the Queensland economy,” she said.
“Our venue is dynamic enough to allow us to host business events varying from 6,000 in the Arena, 3,500 attending a banquet dinner, 500 exhibition booths or a small meeting of 10 delegates – our strength of venue is part of our success.”
“It goes without saying our cutting edge reputation in the industry is reflective of not only our venue but our people. All staff of the GCCEC are a contributing factor to our ongoing success and without their hard work, dedication and ability to go the extra mile, the Centre would not be where it is today,” Adrienne said.
As a convention centre, GCCEC plays a major part in the leisure tourism sector, having hosted 41 major leisure, public music and sporting events attracting thousands of domestic and international participants and spectators.
The hotly contested awards are the premier accolade for best industry management practice and outstanding performance in the Australian meetings and business events industry. GCCEC already features in MEA’s prestigious National Hall of Fame, reserved for only a select number of superior venues.
The various state category winners will now go on to contest the MEA National Awards, which will be being held on 7 May 2013 in Darwin.
Ms. Readings added that the outlook for the Centre continues to be bright with a strong mix of business confirmed for the next financial year.
