On February 24,2017- 40,000 runners from Israel and around the world descended on Tel Aviv for the biggest sporting event in Israel, The Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon, and 150,000 spectators cheered on the runners from the sidelines. This year’s winner, Gezu Belete Mekonen, completed the 42.195 km route with a time of 02:12:12, which means that William Kiprono Yagon, who whizzed through the course with a time of 2:10:30 in 2015, is still the reigning champion of the Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon. The race included six urban routes: the Marathon (42.195 km), the Half Marathon (21 km), a 10k Race, a 5k Race, a handcycle race for athletes with disabilities, and two Mini-Marathon courses (500m and 1k) for children.
