Emirates has been named Best In-Flight Entertainment for the fourth year in a row at the annual Airline Excellence Awards by AirlineRatings.com.

The annual Airline Excellence Awards by AirlineRatings.com celebrates and promotes excellence in the airline industry. The announcement follows a recent win at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, where Emirates was awarded World’s Best Inflight Entertainment System for a record thirteenth consecutive year.

Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President for Australasia, said this is a testament to the airline’s continued commitment to a superior experience when flying.

“Emirates strives to be on the forefront of innovation, whether it’s our aircraft or inflight entertainment ice. We believe that the journey is as important as the destination, which is why we work tirelessly to improve our product offering,” said Brown.

“Whether our passengers are travelling to our hub in Dubai or onwards to Europe as part of our global route network, there’s something to keep everyone entertained. Emirates has grown its inflight entertainment to more than 2,500 channels with everything from the latest movies to computer games,” said Brown.

Emirates launched its inflight entertainment system in 1992, and launched ice in 2003 which includes the latest blockbuster movies, award-winning television box sets, live TV, music and computer games.

“Emirates has been an innovator ever since it took to the air 32 years ago. And one of the major initiatives was to bring inflight entertainment to economy passengers as quickly as possible,” said Geoffrey Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of AirlineRatings.com.

“The airline has excelled in this area and today its inflight entertainment offering leads the industry,” said Thomas.

All passengers can enjoy Emirates’ inflight entertainment, with multiple language channels available for those from different backgrounds. Emirates also introduced closed captions for the hearing impaired in 2007 and audio captions for the visually impaired in 2014.

Late last year Emirates introduced a free expert-led LinkedIn learning courses as well as uTalk language courses, allowing passengers to maximise their time in the air. The airline has also improved its onboard Wi-Fi offering, with all passengers enjoying up to 20MB complementary Wi-Fi.

Emirates is set to provide Australian passengers more opportunities to enjoy its inflight entertainment system with improved services to Australia. From 1 December 2017, Emirates will introduce a third daily Brisbane service operated by a B777-200LR.

From 25 March 2018, Emirates will introduce a fourth daily Sydney service, operated by its iconic A380 aircraft and will also upgauge its third daily Melbourne service to an A380 service. These changes will make Emirates’ Sydney and Melbourne services all A380 operations.

Emirates operates 77 flights per week between Australia and Dubai, including services to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
