Name: Noree Kahika
Position title: Business Partnership Manager QLD & Nth NSW
Company name: TravelManagers Australia
When and why did you join the industry?
I joined this amazing and everchanging industry in 2003. I’ve always had a burning passion for travel and I saw the opportunity to work within the tourism industry as both an exciting challenge and an awe-inspiring adventure.
What do you like most about your job?
Witnessing firsthand, likeminded people live their dreams by taking control of their careers, starting their own travel business and growing those businesses into thriving, fulfilling and successful endeavours.
What’s one of the biggest achievements of your career so far?
Being accepted for the role of Business Partnership Manager with TravelManagers. It is a highly coveted position, and I have the great honour, and supreme pleasure, of working alongside an esteemed team of professionals. The partnership team, collectively, has over 250 years of travel industry experience.
What’s the best advice ever given to you and who gave it?
There have been many nuggets of wisdom shared along the way but the best advice by far was when I was a sales rep on the road with Uniworld. The GM and my boss at the time, John Molinaro, shared this with me, the advice so fundamentally valuable I have never forgotten it. “Ensure you make work/life balance your number one priority – you are no good to anyone if you’re burnt out.”
Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry?
Lisa Pagotto, founder of Crooked Compass. Lisa symbolises the modern successful woman in tourism & business. Lisa is passionate about travel, committed to sharing travel inspiration and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit.
What can people expect from your company and what sets it apart from the rest?
Individuality. Integrity. A profound sense of family & community. A company that is 100% committed to be the best partner in travel.
What destinations are on your travel bucket list?
Egypt, India, Iceland, Scotland and South America. The list is endless.
What’s a memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)?
River cruising down the Moselle river. By far the most scenic, picturesque river Europe has to offer. And river cruising is not for the older generation – it is for all ages, both a relaxing and explorative experience that literally takes your through some of the quaintest and magical towns you will ever experience.
What are three things you always take with you when travelling?
My Kindle (it holds thousands of books), camera and iPod.
Name someone famous you’d like to travel with and a destination you’d like to go with them.
Can I say Chris Hemsworth and I… in a gondola… in Venice? Hmmm *sigh*
What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years?
Despite the growth with online aggregators in recent years, nothing can replace personalised attention, service and experience. So I see a significant swing back to the travel agent, specifically the mobile agent who provides greater flexibility and offers the customer a more individual, unique and personalised experience.
