Minister Ridgway & Tourism Council hit the road to talk tourism

The Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Hon David Ridgway MLC will speak at 19 tourism industry events over the next three months, as part of a series of regional sessions organised by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council (SATIC).

The free events will provide an exclusive opportunity for Minister Ridgway to meet with tourism representatives from all of South Australia’s tourism regions.

SATIC chief executive officer Shaun de Bruyn said these events will promote discussion on the South Australian visitor economy, and enable tourism operators from across the state to discuss the key challenges, priorities and opportunities facing their industry with the new Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

“We are looking forward to continuing SATIC’s strong working relationship with Minister Ridgway and the State Government to unlock the full potential of tourism within South Australia,” Mr de Bruyn said.

“The state’s tourism industry currently employs over 36,000 South Australians, with the visitor economy now worth a record-breaking $6.6 billion.

“As the peak body for South Australia’s tourism industry, SATIC is committed to its role as an industry advocate and leader, contributing to the sustainable growth of profitable tourism businesses.

“A first for SATIC, these events will aim to foster a positive working relationship between tourism businesses and the State Government, ensuring both parties work collectively to shape the direction of this key economic driver for our state.”

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway emphasised the importance of hearing first hand from tourism operators and other industry stakeholders.

“The Marshall Government will have a strong emphasis on growing South Australia’s tourism sector to bring more dollars into our economy and create more jobs,” said Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway.

“I firmly believe the best way to grow the tourism sector is to work collaboratively with local tourism businesses, operators and other stakeholders who have skin in the game and are at the coal face.

“That’s why I’ll be getting out into the regions over the coming months, to get a better understanding of how the State Government can help address some of the challenges that the tourism sector is facing as well as how we can maximise the enormous opportunities that exist.”
