Cape Otway Lightstation prepares to light up the shipwreck coast
The Cape Otway Lightstation is preparing to dust off its original Fresnel lens so it can be relit for the first time in twenty years in celebration of its 170th birthday on 18 August.
Kicking off at 6pm sharp, the event is planned to coincide with International Lighthouse Weekend and will allow a limited number of ticket-holders access to climb the tower to experience this once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity.
Hundreds of visitors are expected to brave the winter elements to enjoy the range of family-friendly activities that are planned, including a bonfire, live music, ghost tours and historic story-telling. There will be a variety of delicious and locally-sourced food and wine available to purchase.
Entry is free to the general public; however tickets must be reserved in advance online by visiting www.lightstation.com/you-light-up-my-life. Visitors are asked to bring warm clothing, a blanket to sit on and a torch.
