Singapore Airlines gives Melbourne a taste of Wellington through VR
Singapore Airlines and Tourism Wellington have teamed up to deliver a unique Virtual Reality experience this February so Melburnians can #DrinkWELLinMelb.
To mark almost 12 months of the Singapore-Melbourne-Wellington service, the #DrinkWELLinMelb tasting will allow customers to experience the unique drinks culture both cities are renowned for, all while visiting the Wellington region thanks to a bespoke virtual reality experience.
The tasting will be hosted at Whitehart Bar in Melbourne’s CBD from 20 to 24 February between 4:30pm-7:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 4pm-8pm on Friday and 1:30pm-5:30pm over the weekend. As part of the experience customers will be able to order five different drinks from the Wellington region, which are accompanied by a VR headset transporting them to Wellington to meet the producer and see the venue, the vineyards, the brewery, the sunrise, the gin and the windy Wellington roads.
The drinks being served as part of the tasting flight are from; Garage Project brewery located in the heart of Wellington City, Lighthouse Gin and three wineries Ata Rangi, Luna Estate and Palliser Estate all of which are located just over an hour from Wellington in Martinborough.
Singapore Airlines Area Manager Victoria, Patrick Biggerstaff said the Singapore-Melbourne-Wellington service was proving popular with Victorians looking to explore the New Zealand capital.
“Since we launched the flight in May last year we’ve seen a lot of people travelling across the Tasman with the aim of experiencing the local food and drinks scene that Wellington and the region has to offer,” Mr Biggerstaff said.
“Both Wellington and Melbourne provide a tantalising array of local food and drink and with four flights a week between the two cities a long weekend is easy to arrange.
“Our #DrinkWELLinMelb activation will allow people who are yet to explore Wellington the chance to see and taste a small selection of what’s on offer across the ditch.”
Wellington has one of the country’s best drinks regions less than an hour’s drive from the city, the Wairarapa region. Martinborough is famous for its drinks including 20-odd vineyards, most within walking or cycling distance of the colonial style village square, and a selection of which can be discovered through the VR experience.
Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency General Manager Anna Calver said the city stood ready to welcome Victorians who wished to eat and drink their way through the region.
“Wellington and the surrounding region has a winery, brewery, restaurant and experience to fit almost every budget and taste.
“Thanks to the Singapore Airlines flights between Melbourne and Wellington, two cities famous for their food, wine, underground bars, cafes and restaurants are even closer than ever,” Ms Calver said
