Travel Trends of 2019

2019: Same same but different? Here’s what we are seeing at Stuba HQ…

It’s been a busy old 2019 at Stuba. Not just because renegotiated contracts have resulted in a big boom in sales, but we’ve had a change in management structure, new processes and wow, it’s just been a bit crazy

Here are the things that are sticking out the so far in 2019

  • Personalization – Travelers feel that brands should tailor their information based on the personal preferences and past behaviors AND will pay for more for their services;  travelers are ready to spend on such trips. Solo trips and Luxury trips are on rise.
  • Users are more comfortable with use of Digital Assistance like Google Assistant. People are more comfortable having conversation with computers than human interaction. Travelers are smart and knowledgeable, they can easily search data online and make arrangements. This will be a big challenge for agents.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions of larger players in the industry overpower the small size retail agencies. Ctrip is an example with their continuous expansions and acquisitions in Asia and other parts of the world.
  • Content driven activities and marketing strategies – VR plays a vital role. Maintain the right balance between genuine human interaction and efficient automation.
  • Travel technology focus in developing economies more towards mobile apps and cashless payments. App fatigue is a real possibility, due to plethora of different apps, including social media, payment apps and travel-specific apps.
  • Cities in relatively quiet and stable countries are profiting from unrest in other countries. While mass tourism is important to many local and national economies, overcrowding is changing the perception of its benefits. Barcelona, Venice and Santorini are  high-profile examples of cities struggling with overcrowding.
